How can you overcome a rut?
The infamous rut happens to the best of us and sometimes at the worst time possible. Anything can trigger a rut in the making or even be the starting point. Do not think, regardless, that you have to wallow in self pity or succumb to the blank, empty void you might be feeling. You might think it difficult while in the midst and decide to just let the phase pass you by. Nonetheless my lovelies, I am here to inform you that it is possible to overcome a rut. In this blog post I will share seven tips that have helped me personally to get through ruts that have surfaced time after time.
Tip #1: Pray
Lament to your Heavenly Father. Praying and asking God for help is not a bad idea at all. Think about it, you can pray and ask Him to strengthen you to carry on. Ask Him to bless you with His strength to overcome the rut.
Tip #2: Pamper yourself.
Get a facial, Mani-Pedi, style your hair, wax or shave, even take a nice long shower or bath. Nothing makes me feel more refreshed than getting clean and feeling brand new.
Tip #3: Get a work out in.
Engaging in physical activity is known to release endorphins which are like happy hormones. Your body eliminates some of its waste through sweating and your muscles are activated which helps to tone and define them. Your overall mood automatically just lifts.
Tip #4: Remind yourself of your ‘why’.
You have to remind yourself why you do the things you do. If your ‘why’ isn’t inspiring or motivating, you probably need to re-evaluate your goals. If you don’t know what your ‘why’ is, check out this blog post (link here) where I explain a really simple exercise to find your ‘why’.
Tip #5: Just do it already!
You have to get into the habit of taking action. Believe it or not you will come out feeling more accomplished and energized than if you were actually in the mood to. The fact that you got it done even when you wanted the day to be cancelled, will leave you feeling rejuvenated in the strangest , yet remarkable way. You will feel like a champion and will thank yourself in the end.
Tip #6: Take yourself on a date.
Who better knows how to treat you more than you? But do something even better and try something that you haven’t before. I know a lot of us have never truly explored the city that we live in ( if you have, kudos to you). Take a salsa class or experiment with a paint class. Try out the cafe shop or that restaurant you always pass by on your way home from school or work. It doesn’t matter where you go, just go somewhere and relax your mind for a bit.
Tip #7: Journal
Write your thoughts down. It is nice to unwind and get all the thoughts out of your head. Just let it flow out. It doesn’t matter what you write, just write. You never know what idea you might have stored away just waiting on the chance to channel itself out.
And that concludes the 7 tips on how to get out of a rut. I hope this inspires you to really take action no matter what. The only person that stands in your way of achieving your dreams is you. So do yourself a favour and pull yourself out of that rut.
Overcome that rut lovelies!
